Q&A: Exploitation
Monday, 14 November 2011 00:00
Question:
Due to the current economic climate many people are out of work. Often two people come at the same time to apply for the same vacancy. In order to help the desperate applicants within my budget, I hire both at a much reduced wage compared to the norm. Is this exploitation or is it acceptable, since it helps both to earn at least something?
Transparency
Wednesday, 09 November 2011 00:00
TRANSPARENCY’ is among the current buzz-words. While transparency in some things is laudable, in fact necessary, many people have taken it to another extreme. They have opted for “transparency” in the clothing they wear. Either the fabric of the garment is so thin and transparent that the body itself is visible, or the clothing is tight due to which the contours and shape of the body are discernible. The one who wears such garments has been described in the Hadith as “clothed yet naked” and have been warned that such women “will neither enter Jannah nor smell its fragrance” (Mishkaat). The garments that cover the satr (part of the body compulsory to conceal) must never be transparent. Once Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) received a Syrian cloth (which was slightly transparent) as a gift. He gave it to Usamah (R.A.). When he later learnt that Hazrath Usama (R.A.) had given it to his wife, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) told him to instruct her to wear a thicker cloth under it, so that the shape and figure of her body is not exposed (Musnad Ahmad).

Faqihul Ummah: Anger Over Humiliation
Tuesday, 08 November 2011 00:00
Summary of Letter:
Bismihi Ta'ala
Respected Mufti Saheb

Desire
Tuesday, 08 November 2011 00:00
Desires are part of human nature. If a person’s desires are channelled correctly, it can become the greatest driving force towards good. For instance, if a person’s most intense desire is to attain the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and to acquire the everlasting abode of Jannah, this desire will become the strongest motivating factor towards righteous actions. Such a person will be most eager to fulfil all the obligations of Deen. He will be most eager to hasten towards the Musjid when the time of Salaah comes. In fact Salaah will be the coolness of his eyes, tilaawat (recitation) of the Quran will be his refreshment, zikr and dua will be his energy and living to serve Allah Ta’ala will be his oxygen. His adornment will be excellent akhlaaq (character, such as sincerity, humility, tolerance, forgiveness, etc), outstanding mu’aasharat (social interaction, such as kind treatment to parents, spouses, family members, neighbours, etc) and honest and upright mua’malaat (monetary dealings and transactions). Since he is driven by the desire to please Allah Ta’ala, he will automatically flee from everything that displeases his Creator and Sustainer. Going towards sin for him will be like going towards a blazing fire. Thus a person whose greatest desire is to please Allah Ta’ala will be an asset to himself, a true blessing to his family and community and a boon to humanity.
Submission

The days of Haj are with us. Those who undertake this momentous journey will be constantly reminded of Sayyidina Ebrahim (alaihis salaam), his wife Hazrath Hajra (alaihas salaam) and his son Hazrath Ismail (alaihis salaam). The Ka’ba Shareef that the Haji will perform tawaaf of was built by this illustrious father and son. The seven rounds between mount Safa and Marwa is the living reminder of the anxious running at that very pace by Hazrath Hajra (alaihas salaam) in search of water for her infant son. The precious water of zam zam makes one ponder over the thirst of Hazrath Ismail (alaihis salaam) and the extreme concern of his mother - until finally this miracle was granted to them. These are but just a few of the reminders of this illustrious family. Nevertheless, one tremendous lesson that shines extra-ordinarily in the lives of these great personalities is the level of their unquestioning submission to the command of Allah Ta’ala. In these blessed days of Haj we should be learning especially this lesson from them and enacting it in our lives.
Haj Mabroor
Thursday, 06 October 2011 00:00
The fact that Haj has been granted the status of being the fifth pillar of Islam is itself an indication of its importance in Deen. Indeed, such stress has been laid on the performance of Haj that no person upon whom Haj has become compulsory should ever delay in fulfilling this obligation. Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said: "The one who was not prevented from Haj by a definite need, or a tyrant ruler, or a severe illness and he passed away without having performed the Haj, then he may pass away if he wishes as a Jew or, if he wishes, as a Christian'' (Daarmi). Allahu Akbar! What a stern warning! A person who delays in performing the obligatory Haj without a valid excuse is being warned of a bad death (may Allah Ta'ala protect us all). Hence Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said: "He who intends to perform (the obligatory) Haj should hasten in performing it" (Abu Dawood).
Therefore the one who can afford to perform Haj must never delay in doing so. The one who delays its performance without a valid reason will be sinful. Despite this great stress to perform the Haj as soon as one can afford to undertake the journey, many people postpone it for various reasons which are not acceptable in the light of the Shariah.
