Ml. Muhammad Ibrahim Balyawi

Maulana Muhammad Ibrahim was born to a respected religious family in 1304 A.H. in Balya (presently in the state of Uttar Pardesh, India)

He studied Arabic and Farsi under Maulana Hakeem Jameeluddin Naginwi in Junepur. He studied under Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Saheb as well who was one of the finest students of Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi. In 1325 A.H., he began his study in the famous Darul Uloom Deoband, from where he graduated in 1327 A.H.

He was a special student of Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmoodul Hasan Saheb and had a keen insight of the teachings of Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi, the founder of Darul Uloom Deoband.

His lectures and lessons inspired about three generations of Islamic scholars due to the fact that he engaged in teaching for over sixty years. His lectures on Hadith would relate the Quran, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), stories of the Prophets, Sahaba - the companions of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam -, and Auliya (saints), Islamic history, Ilm al-Kalam (Theology), Mantiq (logic) and current affairs to the content of the Hadith, thus, making the understanding and application of the Hadith very easy and simple for the students. His students were always eager to attend his lectures and used to quench their thirst of knowledge from this academic ocean.

Maulana Yusuf Binuri used to say that Maulana Muhammad Ibrahim Balyawi would make the most complicated of books very simple for his students. He was truly reminiscent of the Salf-e-Saliheen (the pious predecessors).

From 1327 A.H. to 1387 A.H., he taught Islamic sciences at many different places throughout the Indian subcontinent. Some of these places include Madrassa-e-Aliya Fatehpur, Darul Uloom Deoband, Darul Uloom Azamgarh, Madrassa-e-Imdadia Bhanga (Bihar), Jamia Islamia Dhabel (Gujrat) and the famous Madrassa of Hath-hazari (Chatgam, Bangladesh). However, his sixty years of teaching were spent mostly at the prestigious Darul Uloom Deoband.

Due to his long tenure of sixty years as an Ustadh of Islamic sciences, his students number over thousands and are spread all over the whole world. After the demise of Shaykhul Hadith Maulana Husain Ahmad Madani (r.a), he assumed the position of Shaykhul Hadith of Darul Uloom Deoband and continued to teach in Darul Uloom Deoband until the end of his life.

He died on 24th of Ramadhan 1387 A.H. (December 27th, 1967) in Deoband and is buried in Qabristan-e-Qasmi (the Qasmi graveyard).

May Allah Ta`ala enlighten his grave. Ameen.
