Hadhrat Umar (radiyallahu anhu) reports that he heard Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) saying, “All actions are judged according to the intention and every person will receive that which he intended. Thus, whoever’s migration was towards Allah Ta'ala and His Rasool (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), then his migration was towards Allah Ta'ala and His Rasool (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). And whoever’s migration was towards acquiring the dunya or marrying a woman, then his migration is towards whatever he intended.”

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “When a position (of proximity to Allah) has been destined for a servant of Allah Ta`ala but, he is unable to reach that position through his own deeds, then Allah Ta`ala besets him with calamities to his body, wealth, or children. Allah then enables him to adopt sabr (be patient) until he reaches that position which has been determined for him.” (Abu Dawood, Ahmad)
