Virtue of Fasting on the Day of 'Aashuraa

Hadhrat Abu Qataadah  reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was asked regarding (the virtue of) fasting on the Day of 'Aashuraa (tenth of Muharram). Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “It (fasting on the Day of 'Aashuraa) wipes out the sins of the past year.”

Plunge into the Mercy of Allah Ta'ala

Hadhrat Ka`b bin Maalik (radiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said,“Whoever visits a sick person, plunges into the mercy (of Allah Ta'ala). Then when he sits beside the sick person he becomes completely soaked in it (i.e. the mercy of Allah Ta'ala)”.

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “There are no days more beloved to Allah Ta’ala that he be worshipped in than the ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Fasting on one of these days (excluding the tenth) is equivalent to the fasting of an entire year and spending one of these nights in the ‘ibaadah of Allah Ta’ala is equivalent to spending the night of Qadr in ’ibaadah.”

Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (radiyallahu anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “No action performed in any day is more virtuous than the deeds performed during these (ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” The Sahabah asked, “Not even Jihaad?” Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “Not even Jihaad, except for that person who endangers his life and wealth and does not return with anything. (Saheeh Bukhari # 969)

Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Indeed the people closest to me on the day of judgement will be those who recited the most Durood on me. (Sunan Tirmidhi  #484)
