When last were we blessed with the complete recitation of the Quraan Majeed? Among the rights of the Quraan Majeed is to complete at least two khatams a year. We want everyone to fulfill our rights, let us start by fulfilling the right of the Quraan Majeed. Let not a day of purity pass by without us having recited a portion of the Quraan Majeed. If on any day we are extremely tired or busy, then the least we can do is to open the Quraan Majeed and recite a few lines. A day passed without reciting the Quraan Majeed is like a gold chain with a link missing. That chain is incomplete and cannot be used.

The Quraan Majeed must become part of our lives, to the extent that the day it is not recited we should become restless and uneasy that something is missing in our life today. We make time for everything in our lives, surely we can make time for the Quraan Majeed, the beautiful words of our Allah Ta‘ala. While this is a right of the Quraan Majeed, out of his grace and mercy Allah Ta‘ala rewards us for its recitation. Upon the recitation of every letter one is blessed with at least ten rewards. Thus the recitation of Surah Faatihah alone will earn us a few thousand rewards. Therefore let us reap the maximum by reciting the Quraan Majeed daily.

Got a Contact?

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “Protect the boundaries of Allah Ta‘ala (by fulfilling His commands and refraining from what He has forbidden), you will find Him in front of you (at your assistance). Become acquainted with Allah Ta‘ala (i.e. become close to Him and develop a contact with Him by means of His obedience and constant remembrance) in ease, He will recognize you in times of difficulties.” (Musnad Ahmad #2803)

Whenever a problem arises, a person always tries to find a contact in “high places” to help him out of that difficulty. Allah Ta‘ala, the Most High, is thee contact and He alone can remove all difficulties. The biggest problem is that we have not developed our contact with Him, nor have we learnt to ask from Him. To develop this contact one will have to join the company of the pious, learned ones and learn the obedience and love of Allah Ta‘ala from them.

When the Brakes Fail...

Every vehicle has a braking system which reduces the speed of the vehicle and allows it to come to a complete halt. This human body which is always on the move is daily faced by the fast moving sins and temptations. Modesty and shame form that much needed braking system in man. Without it, man will time and again be destroyed in head-on collisions and life threatening problems.

Music, magazines and movies have become part of a systematic effort to break down man’s braking system of modesty. When brakes fail, then that accidental glance meets up with broken homes and marriages.

We need to keep our brakes serviced with good actions and pious company.

Hi... then... Bye!!! This is the meaningless greeting of the West. One wonders what really does it mean? Is he asking you whether you are on a high? Whatever it may mean, no greeting is as comprehensive and perfect as the greeting which is derived from one of the attributes of Allah Ta’ala, which is the greeting of the angels and will be the greeting of the Believers in Jannah — the beautiful greeting of “As salaamu ‘alaikum”.

Security

As salaamu ‘alaikum means “Peace be upon you”. It is a prayer of peace, which encompasses every good for the one being greeted. It is also a declaration of safety and security towards the person being greeted, as if to say that the one being greeted is being told that his life, family and property are all safe from yourself. Thus you will not harm him, his family or property in any way.

Down and Moody

Sometimes we do have those unpleasant days, where we feel down and low, moody and irritable. Often on such occasions we tend to make the biggest mistake by blurting out our thoughts and feelings. The devil and our base desires deceive us to think that we are getting everything off our chests and we will thereafter feel much lighter and better. However our explosive reaction only adds to our pain and and makes us later regret.

The wiser and more intelligent thing to do is to turn our gaze away from all the negatives around us and focus on the positives. This will help to bring about some balance within us. Thereafter we should smile and others will smile with us. We should speak good and do good to others, and we ourselves will automatically feel good again. Before we know it, we will once more be feeling better and in high spirits. Then, in a rational and positive manner, address the issues that are necessary to attend to. Otherwise, adopt patience and take the innumerable rewards from Allah Ta‘ala.
