The Silent War

The effort to destroy Islam is almost as old as Islam itself. Ever since Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) proclaimed the message of Allah Ta‘ala, the Kuffaar began plotting ways and means to annihilate Islam and the Muslims. Fourteen centuries later this futile effort is continuing unabated.

Allah Ta‘ala has informed the Muslims from before that the Kuffaar will continue to fight them in an attempt to turn them away from their deen. This “fight” is being waged on all fronts. The physical battle is continuing to this day in many parts of the world where Muslims are being mercilessly gunned down. Their only “crime”: They are Muslims!

Shattering our Dear Children

Monday, 25 January 2016 16:06

At times, the death of a single soul becomes the means of the death and end of many family relationships. All it takes is one member of the family to unjustly take possession of the property of the deceased and there we have it – the heirs are at each other’s throats.

Parents should especially take note that every effort must be made to ensure that all their affairs are in order and totally clear, as well as that they instill deen in their children. Otherwise, the very empire that they leave behind will become a means of tearing their children apart and making them lifelong enemies.

Let us impress on our children the temporary nature of this world and the importance of the preparation for the Hereafter. Remind ourselves that let alone the property, not even the stolen title deeds will come with us into the grave. Unlawful wealth can never bring us happiness, especially if it has broken the hearts of others.

‘Umrah

It is that time of the year when thousands of people will be flocking to the mubaarak lands of Makkah Mukarramah and Madeenah Munawwarah for the performance of ‘umrah and ziyaarah. Indeed, it is very encouraging to note that the trend of spending thousands of rands on idle holidays overseas is gradually fading. Instead many people are now opting to spend their money to perform the tremendously great ‘ibaadah of ‘umrah. May Allah Ta‘ala accept their ‘umrah and make it a means of guidance for one and all, aameen.

While those blessed with this excellent opportunity are extremely fortunate, nevertheless it is important to fully appreciate the significance of this noble journey. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said: “The haaji and the person going for ‘umrah are the delegations of Allah Ta‘ala. If they ask, it will be granted to them. If they seek forgiveness, they will be forgiven” (Sunan Ibni Maajah #2892). Subhanallah! What an absolutely excellent journey this is.

How do I Save Myself in the Holidays?

Question:

I am in high school. Soon the exams will be over and the holidays will commence. Many boys and girls are planning various wrong activities to which I am also being invited. The temptations and the peer pressure are very strong. How do I save myself from falling prey to the temptation? Please advise.

Answer:

You have mentioned something very interesting...  that the exams will soon be over. Indeed the exams will very soon be over — precisely at the moment that this short life expires. When the angel of death will suddenly snatch one’s soul out of the body, the alarm would have been sounded that it is time to exit from the examination room. There will be no grace – not even for one second. One will be carried out of the “examination room” on the shoulders of men and buried under tons of sand, six feet deep. Then it will be time either for the most spectacular celebration... or it will be the beginning of the worst sorrow and grief over the greatest failure ever. Therefore, while it is true that the exams will be soon over, it is nevertheless ongoing until the last breath.

Oppose Your Enemy!

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “Observe the fast of ‘Aashura and oppose the Jews by fasting a day before it or after it (as well) i.e. the 9th and 10th or 10th and 11th of Muharram.” (Musnad Ahmad #2154)

While reaping the virtues of fasting on the day of ‘Aashura, an important lesson is emphasised by means of this fast; this is the lesson of firmly maintaining one’s Islamic identity at all times and totally refraining from imitating the disbelievers, even in an act of worship.

We should calmly consider the following:

- Does a Muslim choking in his tie and suit resemble the leader of all mankind, Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), or does he resemble the leaders of Israel and America???

- Does a Muslim youngster in his designer jeans and T-shirt (with the “hottest” fashion label emblazoned across) resemble the leaders of the youth of Jannah, Hassan and Husain (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), or does he resemble the immoral playboys of the West?
