stepping_stones_3_thumb Stepping Stones to Reformation Part 3

It has been the system of Allah Ta‘ala since time immemorial that there would always be a group of His selected servants in every era who are bestowed with the true understanding of the mizaaj (temperament) of deen, and who are blessed with deep insight and vision. They are the ones who have a profound concern for the plight of the Ummah. With every statement that they utter, gems of wisdom flow out which then clear the doubts of the listeners and brings solace and peace to the hearts of the seekers of the truth. ‘Allamah Iqbaal, the famous poet, explaining the treasures that these great servants of Allah Ta‘ala possess, says: “If you desire the true love of Allah Ta‘ala, serve His pious servants, for you will not even find these pearls in the treasures of kings.” Undoubtedly in this era of fitnah, our beloved shaikh, Hazrat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee Saahib (daamat barakaatuhum) is among those selected servants of Allah Ta‘ala. This compilation is a collection of the highlights of Hazrat Mufti Saahib’s majaalis that were conducted in the blessed month of Ramadhaan 1435/2014 and of the weekly Saturday majaalis conducted thereafter till Ramadhaan 1436/2015.

  Dear Haafiz – Revised Edition

In the present times we are extremely fortunate that we have many huffaaz in our communities, unlike the situation a few decades ago when huffaaz had to be brought from faraway places to perform the Taraaweeh Salaah. It could be safely said that at this present moment a few thousand students are engaged in the memorising of the Quraan Majeed in South Africa only, let alone the rest of the world. These students will tomorrow be leading the Taraaweeh Salaah in various places. However, unfortunately many do not fully realize the tremendous responsibility that this task entails. This concise booklet is a feeble attempt to highlight to our young huffaaz their own status as well as the responsibility that lies on their shoulders.

Words of Wisdom from the Pious of the Past

Among the giants of the recent past were Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas Kandhelwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih), Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) and Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih). The legacies of these three personalities became the means of the reformation of thousands around the globe.

In the this book, titled “Words of Wisdom from the Pious of the Past”, some of their heart inspiring statements and golden advices have been translated from the Urdu language. A short biography of each of these personalities has also been included in this book which will give one a slight glimpse of their status as well as their works and achievements.

Allah Ta‘ala is the Guardian of His deen and He alone will protect it till the last day. As a means, in every era Allah Ta‘ala used the ‘Ulama-e-Haq and His true servants to dispel any confusion and deviation from any quarter. Thus over the centuries despite the many attacks on deen by the deviant groups, by means of the tireless efforts of the ‘Ulama-e-Haq, Allah Ta‘ala has preserved the deen in its pristine purity. This will Insha-Allah continue till Qiyaamah.

This treatise has been prepared to dispel the myth that the mazaahib of the four imaams of fiqh (viz. Imaam Abu Haneefah, Imaam Maalik, Imaam Shafi‘ee and Imaam Ahmad bin Hambal [rahimahumullah]) are not based on sound proofs from the sources of sharee‘ah, viz the Quraan, sunnah, ijmaa’ and qiyaas, in particular with regard to the salaah of females.

Avoiding Divine Wrath

Our most beautiful deen has given us complete guidance and bestowed us with the most perfect way of leading our lives. Among the occasions in which the guidelines of deen are most tragically neglected is the occasion of nikaah. The blessings of this great ‘ibaadah are destroyed due to an abundance of sinful activities.

This booklet is a consolidated transcript of two talks that were delivered by Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas Patel Saheb (daamat barakaatuhm) on this most pertinent topic in an effort to enlighten the Ummah of the importance of conducting our nikaahs in the simple, sunnah manner and to highlight the harms of having extravagant weddings and indulging in haraam activities.

Why Should We Follow an Imaam? – Taqleed

The fitnah of ghair muqallidiyyat (abandoning the following of a mazhab) is an extremely dangerous and overwhelming fitnah of contemporary times. Generally, simple-minded youngsters as well as unwary Muslims, who are uneducated of the basics of Deen, but have the desire for practice, fall prey to this fitnah.

The picture painted by those who abandon following of mazhabs seems very attractive and appealing to the layman as he is invited towards following the Qur’aan and Hadith directly opposed to following an Imaam. Furthermore, a calculated effort is being made to cause the Ummah to abandon the safe path which the Ummah treaded upon for many centuries. As a result, doubts and suspicions are instilled regarding the great Imaams, the pious of the past and at times even regarding the illustrious Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu Anhum)

Photography & Modern Challenges

The rapid progress of technology has provided mankind with many useful items and instruments and also created many challenges. Among the various “two-edged swords” that technology has dished out, which are in almost every person’s hands, are the cell-phone and the internet. While the benefits of these items are numerous, the misuse or abuse of the same has already resulted in havoc and devastation in many people’s lives.

Therefore, everything that technology dishes out is not to be immediately grabbed with both hands. First its position in sharee‘ah must be properly ascertained, whether it falls within the limits of permissibility or not. If it is permissible, what are its limits? Despite being permissible in principle, would its use affect other shar‘ee objectives? All these aspects have to be carefully considered before any view can be expressed. In particular, the question of digital photography demands that the highest levels of caution be exercised in ascertaining its shar‘ee position.

In the Blessed Lands

Al-hamdulillah, it is with the grace and Mercy of Allah Ta’ala that He allowed us another wonderful, blessed journey to the Haramain and also afforded us with an enlightening visit to Masjidul Aqsa in the company of our respected and honourable sheikh, Hadhrat Mufti Ibraaheem Salehjee Saahib (daamat barakaatuhu) in Ramadhaan 1433.

For many of us it was the first time that we visited Jordan and Palestine. We found these places to be very rich in Islamic history with great virtue, barkat and blessings. Indeed these lands are blessed for Allah Ta’ala Himself, in the Qur-aan has called it, “The land which We have blessed its surroundings.” Once Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said to his Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum), “How wonderful is Shaam!” The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) asked, “Why is that?” Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam replied, “I see the angels of Allah Ta’ala spreading their wings over Shaam.” Ibn Abbaas radiyallahu anhu then added, “The Ambiyaa (alayhimus salaam) lived therein and there isn’t a place in Al Quds (Jerusalem) where a Nabi has not prayed or an angel has not stood.” Each place is full of history and has great lessons in it for those that visit. Since many Muslims from our country visit the blessed lands, it would be beneficial to note down the history and virtues of each site as this will make the trip more meaningful for the visitor.

Knowing the virtues of each place will most definitely increase the value of the noble journey and create love and respect in the heart of the visitors. Most of the facts mentioned in this booklet have been taken from the works of Hadhrat Mufti Taqi Usmaani Saahib and his elder brother Hadhrat Mufti Rafee’ Usmaani Saahib (daamat arakaatuhuma). They have written a detailed treatise in the urdu language named Jahaan Deeda and Ambiyaa ki Sarzameen me. Both these books are worth reading as they contain a great wealth of knowledge.

Together with this, our respected ustaaz, Hadhrat Mufti Saahib (daamat barakaatuhu) had given us valuable advices throughout the journey. These advices have also been penned down for the benefit of the reader. May Allah Ta’ala accept this little treatise and make it a means of attaining the Radhaa (pleasure) of Allah Ta’ala. Aameen.
