Q: Is reformation possible without harshness?

A: It will be incorrect to say that every person’s islaah could take place without harshness and it will also be incorrect to say that every person’s islaah can be made with harshness. Instead, for certain people a soft approach is necessary and for others a firm approach is necessary.

(The paths leading to Allah Ta`ala are equal to the amount of breaths that are taken by the makhlooq - creation). There are not only one or two ways. Nonetheless, this is dependant on one’s nature and temperament. Moulana Thanwi rahmatullahi Alayhi had felt that islaah cannot take place without firmness. Hence, there are many examples of this. However, others had reasoned differently.
