Lessons in the musjid of Hadrat Abu Darda r.a

PrintE-mail

Hadrat Abu Darda رضى الله عنه used to conduct lessons in the musjid. After teaching one person he would make him in charge of ten students so that he teaches them the lessons that he taught to him. Likewise, he used to assign a second person to another ten students to teach them the lessons he taught to him. In this manner he used to appoint several students.
Once, a person counted 1600 students who were studying the Qur’an in Abu Darda’s musjid.

Hazrath Jabir رضى الله عنه used to also conduct lessons in the musjid. However no wages were stipulated for these people.

Question: At times money is needed for the maintenance of the musjid, but people are not prepared to contribute. They instead give Zakah. Can the method (strategem) of tamleek (passing on of ownership) be adopted?

Answer: After tamleek the monies can be used. However a strategem is but a strategem.
