Making a verbal intention

PrintE-mail

Making a verbal intention at the beginning of an `ibadat has not been established from the aimma-e-mujtahideen nor from the muhadditheen. However, the fuqaha have stated that it is mustahab for one who cannot gain presence of mind to make a verbal intention. The verbal intention will be in place of his presence of mind.

This is similar to the case of a dumb person who is unable to recite the Quran. His qirat will be substituted by him merely moving his tongue. (Durre Mukhtar, vol 1, pg 378)

This is also the case of a bald person on the occasion of Haj. Passing the blade over his head will be in place of shaving his hair
