Respect and Love – The Two Motivating Factors

(Summary of Mufti Ebrahim Salejee’s majlis (Saturday 16th February)

When we restrain from something then it is either because of respect or love for the person who instructed us to do so. Hence, we conclude that when we do not conform then it is due to a lack and deficiency in our love and respect. The whole structure of Deen is based on 2 pillars; love and respect.

One acknowledges his wife because of all the service she renders for one. Thus, she is appreciated and respected. Hence, the reason why we fail to commit ourselves to the teachings of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is that we have not recognised who Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is and what he has done for us. It is a great disservice to just remember him once a year or only in one month of the year. This is the way of the kuffar and disbelievers. A mu’min needs to see to it that he takes out time daily to think of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and send salawaat and durood upon him. We need to teach our children the level of love and respect that is required.

We go to Madinah Munawwarah and Makkah Mukarramah and then buy those brands that support the enemies of Allah Ta`ala and His Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). We may consider it as something trivial and think that it is just a name or a brand and nothing more than that. But put on a t-shirt with Usama bin Laden printed on the front and Taliban printed on the back and then try to enter America. Will it ever be possible? You may argue with them that it’s only a name, but this argument holds no weight in their eyes.
