Sayyiduna Anas (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) narrates the following incident:<\/p>\n
Among the Sahaabah of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) was a man of the Ansaar known as Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu). He was a businessman who would do business in various lands and regions using his own wealth and wealth which was invested by others. Together with being a competent businessman, Abu Sayyiduna Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) would engage in (excessive) \u2018ibaadah and was also very pious.<\/p>\n
One day, while Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) was travelling to some place, he was accosted by a thief. The thief, who was clad from head to toe in armour, said to him, \u201cGive up all your wealth, for I am going to kill you!\u201d Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) responded, \u201cWhy do you want to kill me? Just take the money!\u201d The thief replied, \u201cAs far as the money is concerned then it is certainly mine. However, I am determined to kill you!\u201d<\/p>\n
Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) said, \u201cIf you insist on killing me, then allow me to first perform four rakaats of salaah.\u201d The thief obliged and said, \u201cPerform salaah as you wish.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) thus made wudhu and commenced performing his four rakaats of salaah. In the final sajdah of the four rakaats, while making du\u2018aa, he addressed Allah Ta\u2018ala in the following words:<\/p>\n

O the Doer of all that He intends! I ask you, by Your strength which cannot be challenged, and by Your kingdom which cannot be overcome, and by Your radiance which fills the corners of Your throne, that You suffice me from the evil of this thief! O the One who assists, assist me! O the One who assists, assist me! O the One who assists, assist me!<\/em><\/p>\n After making this du\u2018aa three times, he suddenly saw a horseman approach, holding a spear which he placed between the ears of his horse. As the thief caught sight of the horseman and moved towards him, the horseman stabbed him with the spear and killed him. He then turned to Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) and bade him to stand.<\/p>\n Sayyiduna Abu Mi\u2019laq (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) asked the horseman, \u201cMy may father and mother be sacrificed for you \u2013 who are you? Indeed Allah Ta\u2018ala assisted me through you today!\u201d The horseman replied, \u201cI am an angel from the inhabitants of the fourth sky. When you made your du\u2018aa the first time, I heard knocking on the doors of the sky. Then, when you made your du\u2018aa for the second time, I heard a clamor among the inhabitants of the sky. Thereafter, when you made your du\u2018aa for the third time, someone said, \u2018This is the du\u2018aa of a person in distress.\u2019 I thus asked Allah Ta\u2018ala to allow me to kill the thief.\u201d<\/p>\n After narrating this incident, Sayyiduna Anas (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) mentioned, \u201cUnderstand that if a person makes wudhu, performs four rakaats of salaah and recites this du\u2018aa, his du\u2018aa will be accepted, whether he is in distress or not.\u201d<\/p>\n (Mujaabud Da\u2019wah \u2013 Ibnu Abid Dunya #13)<\/em><\/p>\n Lessons:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Du\u2018aa is the weapon of a believer. Whenever we have a problem, be it big or small, our first response should be to make wudhu, perform a few rakaats of salaah and raise our hands before Allah Ta\u2018ala in du\u2018aa. Allah Ta\u2018ala is that Being who can assist us with means, without means or even against means and everything is under His supreme control.<\/p>\n 2. The angels are the friends of the pious and hasten to assist them and protect them. We should thus value the company of the angels and should not repel them from ourselves e.g. by keeping pictures of animate objects, having foul odours, etc.<\/p>\n
