{"id":21777,"date":"2025-08-19T09:26:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T07:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alhaadi.org.za\/?p=21777"},"modified":"2025-08-19T09:26:36","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T07:26:36","slug":"the-correct-approach-when-correcting-and-advising-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alhaadi.org.za\/?p=21777","title":{"rendered":"The Correct Approach when Correcting and Advising People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi \u2018alaih) mentioned:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The correct method is to advise people secretly on the sins that we come to know secretly, and sins that are done openly can be corrected openly. However, advice should be given in such a way that the sinner is not disgraced, otherwise, if one humiliates the person while correcting him, one\u2019s good deeds will be destroyed and one will become deserving of sin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In short, the evil deeds should definitely be stopped, on account of the various warnings sounded in the ahaadeeth for those who do not do so, but at the same time, one should maintain the respect of the person being corrected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The way to do this is that if any sin is being committed openly, then it can be stopped openly and clearly. However, when correcting a sin which is being committed secretly, then one should not do it in a way that others come to know of it. Furthermore, it is also among the etiquettes of tableegh that one should adopt a soft and gentle approach when correcting people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A person once spoke harshly to the Khaleefah Ma-moon Ar-Rasheed while advising him. The Khaleefah said, \u201cPlease be polite and kind to me because Fir\u2018aun was a worse person than me, and Nabi Moosa (\u2018alaihis salaam) was a much better person than you, yet when Allah Ta\u2018ala sent Nabi Moosa (\u2018alaihis salaam) and Nabi Haroon (\u2018alaihis salaam) to advise Fir\u2018aun, Allah Ta\u2018ala commanded them saying:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" dir=\"RTL\" style=\"text-align: center; font-family: 'Traditional Arabic'; font-size: 16pt;\">\u0641\u064e\u0642\u064f\u0648\u06e1\u0644\u064e\u0627 \u0644\u064e\u0647 \u0642\u064e\u0648\u06e1\u0644\u064b\u0627 \u0644\u0651\u064e\u06cc\u0651\u0650\u0646\u064b\u0627 \u0644\u0651\u064e\u0639\u064e\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647 \u06cc\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0630\u064e\u06a9\u0651\u064e\u0631\u064f \u0627\u064e\u0648\u06e1 \u06cc\u064e\u062e\u06e1\u0634\u0670\u06cc<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Speak to him politely so that he may accept the advice, or maybe he will fear (Allah Ta\u2018ala)\u201d (Surah Tahaa v44)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once, a young person came to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and said, \u201cPlease allow me to commit adultery.\u201d The Sahaabah of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) present could not tolerate this and were angered; but Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said to him, \u201cCome close to me.\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then asked him, \u201cWould you like anyone to commit adultery with your mother?\u201d He replied, \u201cMay my life be sacrificed for you! I would never want this to happen!\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then said, \u201cIn the same way, other people also do not want that zina should be committed with their mothers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) asked him, \u201cDo you wish that someone commits zina with your daughter?\u201d He said, \u201cMay my life be sacrificed for you! I would never want this to happen!\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then said, \u201cSimilarly, other people also do not want that zina should be committed with their daughters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the same way, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) asked him the same question in relation to his sister, maternal aunt and paternal aunt (and each time he said that he would not want this).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) placed his blessed hand on the young man\u2019s chest and made dua saying, \u201cO Allah! Purify his heart, forgive his sins, and protect his private parts from sin.\u201d The narrator of this hadeeth says that after this, nothing was more hateful to this young man than adultery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In essence, one should employ the means of du\u2018aa, advice, softness, etc. when advising or correcting someone.
