Once, a group of men passed by Nabi \u2018Eesa (\u2018alaihis salaam). Upon seeing them, Nabi \u2018Eesa (\u2018alaihis salaam) remarked, \u201cOne of these men will pass away today, if Allah wills.\u201d<\/p>\n
The men continued on their way. However, when they returned that evening, all of them were present and carrying their bundles of wood. None of them had passed away.<\/p>\n
Nabi \u2018Eesa (\u2018alaihis salaam) instructed them to place down their bundles. He then asked the man whom he had expected to pass away that day to open his bundle.<\/p>\n
When the bundle was opened, a black snake was found inside. Nabi \u2018Eesa (\u2018alaihis salaam) then asked him, \u201cWhat (good deed) did you do today?\u201d The man replied, \u201cI did not do anything.\u201d Nabi \u2018Eesa (\u2018alaihis salaam) urged him to think carefully about what he had done during the day. After reflecting, the man said, \u201cI did not do anything besides this: I had a piece of bread in my hand, and a poor man passed by and asked me for assistance, so I gaave him a portion of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nabi \u2018Eesa (\u2018alaihis salaam) then explained that it was through this act of charity that the calamity had been averted.<\/p>\n
(Tabraani \u2013 Majma\u2018uz Zawaa-id #4664)<\/em><\/p>\n Lesson:<\/strong><\/p>\n A single act of charity can become a shield against a calamity that a person did not know was destined for him. The man in this incident did not perform what people would regard as an extraordinary deed, nor did he realise the significance of what he had done. He merely shared a portion of his bread with a needy person. Yet, Allah Ta\u2018ala accepted that small act of generosity and made it the means of turning away a deadly danger. How many difficulties, hardships and misfortunes Allah Ta\u2018ala protects us from every day may never become known to us in this world. Therefore, no act of charity should ever be regarded as insignificant, for the sincere deed that appears small in our eyes may carry immense weight in the sight of Allah Ta\u2018ala and become the means of protection, blessing and salvation in both worlds.<\/p>\n
