Letter: (The letter was not published. The writer apparently complained of falling again into the very sin which he had repented from and that he had asked forgiveness for.)
Reply: A person repents over his sin and seeks forgiveness but then falls into that sin again. Hence he repents again and at the time of repentance he makes a firm resolution not to commit that sin in future.
However he once again repeats the sin. Thus in such a situation a person should not lose hope and give up repentance. The mere fact that Allah Ta’ala keeps on giving us the ability and the Divine guidance to repent is in no way a small bounty or blessing. It could very well happen that a time comes when we are blessed to carry out such a sincere repentance, after which we never ever repeat that sin again.
Everywhere around us the conditions have become impure and challenging. May Allah Ta’ala protect us all and grant us steadfastness. (Maktoobaat vol. 5 pg. 55)
