(Correspondence of Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi rahimahullah)
Letter: My condition has deteriorated. I am ruined. Now I feel that there is only punishment for me after death. Due to my misdeeds, I am overtaken by calamities. Despite this, I still continue in my evil ways and carnal pleasures. My heart has been inclined towards you for a long time for my reformation. Initially, when I had contact with you, my condition improved. Thereafter when I discontinued any form of contact and my daily ma’moolaat (practises) stopped; I relapsed to my former condition. Presently I am overpowered by such carnal desires that I am on the brink of destruction. I am awaiting your reply.
Reply: You should not lose hope in the mercy and forgiveness of Allah Ta’ala due to your excessive sins.
“Never lose hope of Allah’s mercy. Verily Allah forgives all sins. Undoubtedly He is the Most Forgiving, the Most merciful,”
You should take a fresh bath and perform two rak’aats nafl salaah with the intention of repentance. Then with complete sincerity and total humility, beg before Allah Ta’ala: “O Allah! Forgive all my sins and do not make me lose hope of Your mercy”. For as long as you can manage, continue repenting before Allah Ta’ala. If possible, try to shed some tears. Also once again recommence with your daily ma’moolaat (practises). (Maktoobaat vol. 5, pg. 36)
