Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

A person once wrote a letter to me wherein he complained of himself not finding the desired motivation to perform salaah, make zikr and recite the Quraan Majeed. He asked me for the cure and solution to his problem. I mentioned to him that despite not finding the motivation and drive within himself to carry out the ‘ibaadah, he should still perform it and not leave it out. Through him remaining punctual on the ‘ibaadah, he will eventually find the desired level of motivation within himself as well as the quality of his ‘ibaadah improving. This is similar to a person who is unable to write correctly. Through him continuously practising to write correctly, he will eventually improve his writing ability. On the contrary, if he loses heart and leaves out writing on account of his weakness, he will never succeed in improving his writing skill and ability.
