Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned the following:

The hadeeth of Hazrat Abu Sa’eed Khudri (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) is well known, wherein Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whichever one of you sees a wrong taking place, then he should prevent it with his hand. If he does not have the ability to prevent it using his hand, then he should prevent it with is tongue (i.e. through his speech). If he does not have the ability to prevent it with his tongue, then he should prevent the evil (by detesting it) through his heart.” (Saheeh Muslim #49)

Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) then mentioned:

The last part of this hadeeth explains that one should try to prevent the evil through one’s heart. One way of preventing evil through one’s heart is for the pious servants of Allah Ta‘ala to ponder over the wrongs that are prevalent in society and look for ways whereby they will be able to correct people and eliminate the wrongs.

Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) thereafter said:

Imaam Abdul Wahhaab Sha’raani (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) has written and shown a way through which one can acquire the rank of a Qutub (a very high ranking wali).

In essence, he mentioned that one should think of the good actions that are no longer found in people’s lives in the place where one lives. Thereafter, one should feel sad and perceive pain in his heart for these actions no longer being carried out, after which he should make du‘aa to Allah Ta‘ala. He should express his inability and helplessness in the face of such a situation and implore Allah Ta‘ala to once again revive these good deeds in the lives of the Muslims. One should also apply his heart and mind in looking for ways to revive these good deeds in the lives of the Muslims.

Similarly, one should also think of the evils and sins that have spread among the people. On thinking of these evils, one should perceive a type of pain and sorrow in his heart. Thereafter, one should make du‘aa to Allah Ta‘ala with complete helplessness and inability and beseech Him to erase these evils from the lives of people. One should also apply his heart and mind in looking for ways to eradicate these evils and sins from the lives of Muslims.

Imaam Abdul Wahhaab Sha’raani (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) has written that if one follows this procedure, then insha-Allah, he will become the Qutub of his time.
