Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned the need for creating within people a Deeni mindset where they will refer to the ‘Ulama for guidance in all their matters and disputes. Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) thereafter said:

This mindset (of referring to the ‘Ulama for guidance in all matters and disputes) will not come about in people all at once. Rather, the way to achieve this is that one will first need to create an enthusiasm and desire within people to obey Allah Ta‘ala and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and to follow the Sharee‘ah.

Once this enthusiasm reaches a point where it becomes dominant in them and overcomes their own desires, then gradually, with wisdom, they should be taught that the way for them to fulfil this enthusiasm of obeying Allah Ta‘ala and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is that they should refer to the ‘Ulama who have a deep connection with Allah Ta‘ala and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Thereafter, whatever guidance they receive from the ‘Ulama, they should accept it with great honour and respect, and they should practise upon it with zeal and enthusiasm. This is the method to change the direction of people’s lives and create within them the correct Deeni mindset.
