Hazrat Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) was once requested by his master to slaughter a sheep and then bring to him its two best organs. Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) complied with his master’s request, slaughtered the sheep and the two best organs he brought were the heart and the tongue.

Once again his master requested him to slaughter another sheep but that this time he should bring to him the worst organs. Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) for the second time slaughtered another sheep. Strangely he again brought the same two parts, viz. the heart and the tongue. Quite amazed his master exclaimed: “On both request you brought the same two parts. How can the heart and the tongue be the best as well as the worst?”

Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) replied: “O my master, if the heart and the tongue are straight and in order, then there can be no organ of the body better than them. However if they are corrupted then there can be no organ worse than them.”

Lesson: Guard the tongue and keep the heart clean at all times.
