Formula for becoming the Beloved of Allah

Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

One should endeavor to emulate every sunnah of Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Apart from the sunnah, one should strive to even carry out the mustahab acts of deen. This is my advice to you in my lifetime and after I leave the world. Through this one will receive the promise of becoming from among the beloved servants of Allah Ta‘ala. Allah Ta‘ala says in the Quraan:

قُل إِن كُنتُم تُحِبّونَ اللَّـهَ فَاتَّبِعوني يُحبِبكُمُ اللَّـهُ وَيَغفِر لَكُم ذُنوبَكُم وَاللَّـهُ غَفورٌ رَحيمٌ

(O Muhammad [sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam] inform your Ummah) If you love Allah Ta‘ala, follow me (i.e. Muhammad [sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam]), Allah Ta‘ala will love you and forgive your sins. Allah Ta‘ala is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Qutbul Aqtaab Hazrat Shaikhul Hadith Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya [rahmatullahi ‘alaih] pg. 397)
