Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:
It is compulsory upon one to fulfil the commandments of sharee‘ah, regardless of whether one feels motivated or not. It is really unfortunate that one only fulfils the commands of sharee‘ah when one feels motivated. Is one the servant of one’s feelings or the servant of Allah Ta‘ala? (Being the servant of Allah Ta‘ala demands that one fulfils the command of the Creator regardless of whether one feels motivated or not. This is the sign of one being the true servant of Allah Ta‘ala and not the servant of one’s feelings.) (Malfoozaat Hakeemul Ummat 7/239)
