(Quraan Series – Part 2)
Many people have devoted their entire lives to the service and propagation of the Quraan Majeed. These people spent their days and nights and every available moment they had in the path of the Quraan Majeed. The Quraan Majeed is the speech of Allah Ta‘ala and thus through their devotion to it, they received great blessings and made great strides of progress in gaining the proximity of Allah Ta‘ala. If any person shows devotion and love for the Quraan Majeed, even if it may be according to his limited time and energy, he will also undoubtedly derive great benefit. Hereunder follow two incidents of Imaams of Qiraat which serve as inspiration to us all:
Imaam Naafi’ Madani (rahimahullah) is one of the ten eminent imaams of qiraat. He had devoted his life to the service of the Quraan Majeed, teaching it in Musjid Nabawi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) for approximately 70 years. Whenever Imaam Naafi’ (rahimahullah) would open his mouth to recite the Quraan Majeed or to speak, the fragrance of the most exquisite musk would be perceived. Somebody asked him, “O Abu ‘Abdillah! What perfume do you apply when you sit to teach the Quraan Majeed?” Imaam Naafi’ (rahimahullah) replied, “Let alone applying perfume, I do not even go near perfume. Rather, the truth of the matter is that I had a dream in which Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) applied his blessed mouth to my own mouth and recited the Quraan Majeed. Since that moment, the fragrance you smell has been emanating from my mouth.” (Muqaddimah ‘Ilmul Qiraat pg. 46)
Imaam Abu Ja’far Madani (rahimahullah) is also one of the ten illustrious imaams of qiraat. When he passed away and the people began to give him ghusl, they were astonished to see a radiant circle on his chest which was whiter than even milk! On seeing this miraculous sight, they all agreed that it could be nothing but the noor (divine radiance) of the Quraan Majeed. (Muqaddimah ‘Ilmul Qiraat pg. 104)
