Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (Radiyallahu Anhu) reports that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, “No action performed in any day is more virtuous than the deeds performed during these (ten days of Dhul Hijjah)”. The Sahabah asked, “Not even Jihaad?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, “Not even Jihaad, except for that person who endangers his life and wealth and does not return with anything (i.e. he is martyred)”.
