Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radiyallahu Anhu) reports from Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) that once a man went to visit his friend who lived in another village. Allah Ta’ala sent an angel who waited for him on his path. When he came, the angel asked him, “Where do you intend going?” He replied, “To visit my friend.” The angel inquired, “Is it because of some favour that you have upon him?” He replied, “No, it is only due to the love of Allah Ta’ala.” The angel said, “I am the messenger of Allah Ta’ala to you with this message, Indeed Allah Ta’ala loves you as you loved your friend for His sake.”
