One or two days before Hazrat Qari Siddeeq Ahmad Baandwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) passed away, one of his students who lives about 50 kilometres from Baanda and teaches at a maktab in a village came to visit him. Qari Siddeeq Saheb (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) asked him regarding the conditions over there and contrary to his habit he spoke to him for about ¾ of an hour. During the discussion Qari Siddeeq Saheb (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) mentioned:
“It is extremely necessary that in every village the makaatib should be established. Every village should have a maktab. A land should be obtained for this purpose. Arrangements should also be made for a place for the ustaaz to live.”
Qari Saheb (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) mentioned, “What can I do? This area is such that I have to end up doing everything. Then too, the people don’t send their children to learn. Once I sent one person to a certain village. I made the arrangements for his salary as well. The villagers had to only provide his meals. All the people together could not provide meals for him. How can work take place like this?” Nevertheless, Qari Saheb (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) wrote a letter to this person advising him in the following words; “Do not stop teaching. Continue with the work in this condition as well. Have your meals at the local tea room. I will pay them for your food but don’t move away from that place.”
Qari Siddeeq Saheb (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) used to also say, “Teach the children at the maktab how to perform salaah. Teach the masnoon du‘aa’s that are to be recited daily. Make them repeatedly practice the method of performing salaah. Teach them how to read the Quraan Majeed with tajweed and teach them the important etiquettes of life.” (Hayaat-e-Siddeeq, pg. 378)
