A person has ten pens placed in front of him. He picks up a pen and writes out a ten million rand cheque. It will now be the height of foolishness for this pen to boast over its achievements, as it entailed no excellence on its part. It was the mere favour of the man who moved the pen. In the very same way, we are all but the servants of Allah Ta‘ala. Whatever good we may do or achieve is all through the mercy and blessing of Allah Ta‘ala. The hand does not move, rather it is moved by the One who is in control. Simply thank Allah Ta‘ala for all the good we do.a
